Final Summary Post

My entrepreneurial idea is a fantasy sports website, offering advice on a variety of fantasy sports as well as a place where fantasy players can connect. My idea has definitely evolved since my first blog post. I really did not envision social media being such a must-have, but after numerous examples I know that involving the features if social media is essential for my site. Allowing fantasy users to connect with each other was a new wrinkle into my idea as it developed.

This project really opened up my eyes to just how many factors are involved in operating a business website professionally. There are so many things to consider and an ample amount of decisions that must be made, like choosing between progressive download and streaming video. When I first started this project I did not see how my idea would develop but there are constantly new/important things to consider.

Fantasy sports websites do exist and I realize that my original idea was innovative, but not to such a great extent. So I added the connectivity of other fantasy users, which is something that is really only found in forums, but being a fantasy sports user I know it could be significantly beneficial. Overall, this was a very interesting project and I can really see how as the course went on how exactly my idea was evolving based on all the new information being presented.

The blogs I commented on were: "Basketball Central - noamer23, "Entrepreneurship Project - Abdullah Alrebdi, "College Check" - Uchy Thavy

Online Reputation Management

It is extremely important to have a good online reputation, especially with operating a website on the Internet. This guest lecture discussed how vital it is to basically treat what you put on the Internet as if someone is looking to hire you. I believe this even goes beyond a personal level and maintaining these standards on my website is just as important. Social media has really altered how business is done these days and it is necessary to utilize these applications to get the most out of my idea.

Promotion of my website through using social media and other mediums, such as advertising cannot be understated. Putting a website on the Internet does not mean that people are going to magically start going to it and I need to promote my website. Twitter is a very useful way to do this and as mentioned earlier, advertising is also a good idea.

With my website revolving around fantasy sports, it is basically all done online, so I need to establish a strong online presence. This entails having a respectable and credible domain name, which people will be likely to accept as reliable. Also, I should make sure the websites that link to mine are reliable and respectable because when websites link to my site, they are representing it. Most people aren't going to take part or do service with a website that has a bad reputation, so keeping a good personal reputation and website reputation are extremely crucial.

Week 7 - Blog-Review Post

The blog I have chosen to review is "blog maverick" by Mark Cuban, an American entrepreneur and owner of the NBA team the Dallas Mavericks. He also owns Landmark Theatres and is the chairman of the cable network HDNet. "blog maverick" talks a lot about current business trends, mainly focusing on technological developments and sport business. The blog is very opinionated, but offers a lot of advice ranging from predictions on current companies from investing and its relation to Wall Street.

For instance, the most recent blog post from the site discusses Amazon and whether or not they significantly helped their business with the introduction of new technological services. What makes this blog particularly interesting is the opinionated business discussion derives from someone (Mark Cuban) who has been successful in the industry. However, some of his blog specifically deals with current sport situations, as he is the owner of an NBA team.

When I first viewed this blog I was a little surprised, not only because it dealt so much with business technology, but that it offered so much advice. I expected reviews of certain ideas/innovations and their success rate. Overall, Mark Cuban's blog is very interesting and seems to take on a different look when compared to other blogs with similar topics. "Blog maverick" can be visited at http://blogmaverick.com/.

Week 6 - Bits and Bytes

Originally I did not anticipate my website utilizing any type of audio, with the exception of that present in the videos. However, I now think that audio could be very valuable to my website, so it is important for me to understand how to use different audio files as well as bits and bytes.

Posting audio files on my website discussing current information could provide people with more options. Knowing how to convert Wav files to MP3 will let me save space and allow me more room for storage.

Understanding the storage type will be very important for my website because the more information it can contain the better. If I know that a certain number with a certain prefix then I know how much storage I can allocate to a particular thing.

Week 5 - Digital Video

I plan to post different types of video analysis on my fantasy sports site, so understanding digital video will be very important. Obviously I will have to decide on whether or not to use streaming video or progressive download. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I envision using progressive download more often. The reason for this is that live streaming appears much more difficult based on cost and it would make more sense to utilize progressive download from my position.

Digital video is extremely popular as seen by the amount of money that sites like Youtube have made in the past year. I feel that digital video will increase my websites popularity and make it more user-friendly. However, it is possible that I could end up using live streaming video at some point.

The digital videos on the website will almost exclusively consist of fantasy sports advice. The videos can serve as an alternative to just posting numbers and opinionated information. Eventually I might even be able to have some sort of weekly video segment with guests, but digital video will definitely be used on my website

Week 4 - Hardware

Understanding computer hardware will be essential to running my website successfully. For one, I will need to put together a PC which gives me freedom to run and operate my website without many constrictions. I will need to have a computer with good memory, as I will be storing a lot of information which I will need to look back on.

Introducing video to my website is something I will consider and most likely use. In order to do this I need good video and audio.
The DVD/Blue-Ray drive will be used extensively to look at footage from sporting events for the website.

Week 3 - Spreadsheet Essentials

Microsoft Excel and other similar spreadsheets can definitely play a big part in my fantasy sports website. Not only will it be helpful when organizing finances, but it will also be helpful when organizing sports data. My website will deal with a large amount of numbers and spreadsheets will provide for easier classification of these numbers, as well as looking at trends.

The functions will probably be the most important feature when incorporating spreadsheets into my website. For instance, I will be able to use the AVERAGE function for a player's numbers, such as average pass yards per game. The SUM and COUNT functions will also be used extensively on my website.

Aside from organizing finances and data and the use of functions, the formulas will also be very valuable. I will be able to enter my own formulas and this will allow for much less work when trying to group all of my data together or under a certain category. The graphs feature will allow me to look at trends and patterns.
